Please pray for my mother Janet and my sister Natalie. My sister is an alcoholic and has been living with my mother for several years now, and her illness has recently gotten worse because my grandfather passed away.
My sister is a kind giving person when she is sober. I believe she started drinking heavily because she watched her friend die of breast cancer. My sister was living in Boston at the time and found out her friend had breast cancer and she quit her job to move to Florida to stay with her. She was there for her friend every day when she went through chemotherapy, but her friend did not make it. My sister had many friends and she would give them the shirt off her back to help them. After her passing my sister never got over it, and has been drinking heavily since. She has alienated all of her friends, and resorted to living off of my mother.
My sister is very smart and was taking night classes at Harvard when she was in Boston, and had a good paying job. Now if she can stay sober long enough to get a job, she doesn't last very long as she gets fired for drinking. She has been in and out of rehab facilities more times than I can count, and has gone to the emergency room so many times that it doesn't even phase my mother anymore. She was actually in one rehab facility for 7 months and started drinking the first week she got out.
My elderly mother is trapped at home because she can't leave for fear that my sister will get drunk and leave a pass out with something on the stove, which she has done numerous times. My mother is generally a negative person, and this situation has exacerbated her demeanor. When my sister gets drunk she sometimes gets violent, and although she has never hit my mother, I fear that one time she may do so in a drunken state.
I live over 6 hours away from them and can't really help the situation other than to pray. Please pray for my sister to have the desire and strength to get over her drinking addiction. Please pray for my mother to focus more on positive things and appreciate the good things in life.
Thank You,
Brett
