Please pray for my Mother and Sister

Please pray for my mother Janet and my sister Natalie. My sister is an alcoholic and has been living with my mother for several years now, and her illness has recently gotten worse because my grandfather passed away.

My sister is a kind giving person when she is sober. I believe she started drinking heavily because she watched her friend die of breast cancer. My sister was living in Boston at the time and found out her friend had breast cancer and she quit her job to move to Florida to stay with her. She was there for her friend every day when she went through chemotherapy, but her friend did not make it. My sister had many friends and she would give them the shirt off her back to help them. After her passing my sister never got over it, and has been drinking heavily since. She has alienated all of her friends, and resorted to living off of my mother.

My sister is very smart and was taking night classes at Harvard when she was in Boston, and had a good paying job. Now if she can stay sober long enough to get a job, she doesn't last very long as she gets fired for drinking. She has been in and out of rehab facilities more times than I can count, and has gone to the emergency room so many times that it doesn't even phase my mother anymore. She was actually in one rehab facility for 7 months and started drinking the first week she got out.

My elderly mother is trapped at home because she can't leave for fear that my sister will get drunk and leave a pass out with something on the stove, which she has done numerous times. My mother is generally a negative person, and this situation has exacerbated her demeanor. When my sister gets drunk she sometimes gets violent, and although she has never hit my mother, I fear that one time she may do so in a drunken state.

I live over 6 hours away from them and can't really help the situation other than to pray. Please pray for my sister to have the desire and strength to get over her drinking addiction. Please pray for my mother to focus more on positive things and appreciate the good things in life.

Thank You,

Brett

RE: Please pray for my Mother and Sister

Father...sometimes we cannot understand why we are like we are...or why we succumb to temptation because we are dealing with things in our finite minds. But when we open our minds to the word of God we can understand. The enemy is out to steal, kill and devour our souls...and through the soul our very lives. I pray for this family...I pray that you break the heart of stone of this daughter. Her heart was corrupted by te enemy through drink and because of that she cannot see or understand what she has become. I ask that you remember her Father and in your loving kindness...you remove all protection from her...until the only place she has to turn is you. I ask that you give this mother the courage to practice tough love. She is growing older...and needs to be concerned for her own safety as well as that of her daughter. I encourage this mother to insist that this daughter go to Alcoholics Anonymous or a program of its type if it be in your will...and advise her that should she not do so...she will have to move out on her own and to be prayed up when she says it...and follow-through. We cannot change things if we continue to do things the same way as we have in the past. I know that this sounds cruel...I know that it sounds harsh...but living with an addict as you know Father is far harder...because of the potential for violence, accidental injury, and total chaos. I pray that this mother would seek help for herself to strengthen her...Al-Anon might be a good starting place. as it deals with the unique issues that are present when living with an alcoholic. There are health issues related to stress and co-dependancy that can manifest if she does not find loving support. Those negative traits referred to in the post are often symptoms of co-dependency or are exacerbated by the same if the traits are present in the person before the onset of alcholic symptoms in loved ones. While this mother is aging and will be called home to rest at some point...to not consider different options soon will be a death sentence for this daughter...as there will be no safe haven for her to fall into when her mother is called home. Father...this is such a complex problem...but your power far exceeds the complexity and your willingness to help far exceeds the size of the problem. I thank you for this sister who seeks prayer...and I thank you for the work you will do in this family's behalf. All praise and honor if given to you Father for your tender mercy, loving kindness and never ending hope and love. Please grant these prayers according to your will...In the Name of Jesus...Amen!

RE: Please pray for my Mother and Sister

Thank you!

My sister checked into a rehab facility the very next day after your prayers. I've lost count of how many she's been to at this point, but it has to be 10 or more. I would appreciate it if you would pray for her to follow through this time, as she has been in so many. She was actually in a rehab facility for 7 months and was sober, but then left and started drinking within a week.

RE: Please pray for my Mother and Sister

Father...thank God this daughter is trying again. Please help this family to understand that alcoholism is a geographic disease as well as a situational one. In essence...if she returns to the same place and associates with the same people it is more likely that she will fall again than if she does not. Father help this daughter to make the first priority in her life her sobriety. Give her a desire for life Father...do not let the enemy steal that desire. I pray that when she leaves the rehab center this time that she will have a church home with a ministry centered on sobriety waiting for her. I pray that she have a list of every AA meeting in her Area and a commitment to attend them, even daily if necessary, until she begins to stabilize. Father do not allow this mother to allow her back into her home for more than a very short time. If this daughter is to survive...she must become independant and function as an adult again. Her only dependency for her own benefit MUST be on God. This I believe and for this I pray. In Jesus name...Amen!

Dear Lord, please have mercy on this family.
In the Name of the Lord, right now I command to all the power of darkness and the curses to leave this family! Now!
I pray that Your will to be done in their lives.
You are the King of kings and Your Name is Wonderful.
Thank You my LordHeart
