How to pray? - Guest - 09-10-2011 05:15 PM

Sometimes it feels like my prayers don't get answered, but I know sometimes God is testing me. Testing me to see if I will leave Him if He doesn't answer my prayers. God has has answered some of my prayers too!

I pray daily, but is there a such thing of a certain way to pray? If so, please teach me how? And should I be praying out loud? I'd also like to know how can pray against the enemy attacking me?

The Lord hears either prayers, spoken out laud or in silence for he lives within your heart and hears you either way. Pray with all your might and believe that he hears you and will answer you, but also remember his timing is not our timing, so wait on the Lord and don't faint. He will answer you in his timing and that will be the right time for you too. Just wait and see, for he knows better than us why he does things the way he does. Read the book of psalms and learn from them, they will give you wisdom and faith. They can also be used as a prayer from your heart to the Lord. Bless
Lord have your perfect will be done in this person's life and their request to you. May they gain faith and wisdom form whatever their situation is, and be able to grow more in you. I pray this in Jesus name, amen. Warrior
Read Psalm 27
1- The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2- When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3- Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
4- One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.
5- For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
6- And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.
7- Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
8- When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.
9- Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
10- When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.
11- Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
12- Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
13- I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
14- Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. Jesus-sign Amen

Pray to the Lord as if you were talking to your father. There is no tricks to it, the Lord knows ahead of time what we are going to ask of him, but he likes to hear us ask. This is having communication with the Lord as one that we love and trust with all our Heart. The bible tells us in:
Matthew 6:1
"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Matthew 6:5
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
Matthew 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Matthew 6:8
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
When the disciples asked Jesus how they should pray Jesus taught them how to pray in this order:
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen
I always come to the Lord in Jesus Christ name his precious son, then I start to pray the Lord's Prayer first, then I ask for forgiveness of my sins, and thank him for all the blessings he has already given me. Then I pray for my petition, and end with thanking him in advance. I hope this will also help you to understand more about prayer.
May the Lord guide your steps always and make you a great servant of his as you lean more of him. Bless

The Lord spoke to me today about posting why their prayers are not answered. I will post it tomorrow. I just came home and I need a rest with the Lord.

I believe that God has plans for us and that is why certain prayers get answered and others don't. It's a "Father knows best" attitude I take. Just as an example. I was always asking for prayers to help me conceive and it never happened. Right now I am in an uncertain stressful financial situation. When I think about it, I say, "My God, things would be really bad if I would have had a baby during this time!" The Lord knows what we need and what is best for us. Have faith because he does answer prayers. When I pray, I always ask in Jesus name. I do this because Jesus said anything you ask in my name will be given.

Principles for Effective Prayer
James 5:15-16

Each of us has prayed about situations and for other people without seeing results. When that happens, it’s easy to become discouraged. Rather than give up, we should review our lives to see if we need to alter something.

1. Our prayers must flow from a heart that is in step with God. If we want our prayers to be effective, we must be open to His Spirit and be compassionate, forgiving, and sincere as we intercede. Therefore, pray that you will have His love and compassion for others and that you will forgive fully—just as He has forgiven you (Eph. 4:32).

2. Our prayers are a link between our needs and God’s inexhaustible resources. Ask the Lord to reveal your or your loved one’s true needs and His power to meet those needs so that you can intercede in faith.

3. Identify with the need of the other person. To be truly compassionate in our supplication, we must see others through Jesus’ eyes. When we realize that people are truly hurting on the inside, our mercy for them is released, and we can intercede for them with greater zeal, understanding, and emotion.

4. Desire the highest good in the person’s life. We should pray to stay in the center of God’s will and that whomever we are praying for will do so as well. The Father knows what is absolutely best for each person and what it will take to bring him or her closer to Him.

5. Be open to meeting the person’s need. Are you willing for God to use you to meet another person’s need? Will you allow Him to glorify Himself through you? Jesus did not back away from those who were hurting, and neither should we. We are to follow His example and always remember that God blesses us so that we might bless others.

6. Persevere. We must continue praying, regardless of whether we see immediate results or not, because the longer we intercede for a situation or another person, the more tightly our hearts will be knit to God. That in itself is a comfort to those in need. Prayer binds us together with the Father and with others in love and fellowship—with a spiritual bond that lasts into eternity and will certainly be a blessing to us and to others.

Therefore, endure in your loving, compassionate, hopeful supplication for others, and always be confident that: “The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much” (James 5:16). God is listening, friend. Trust Him.
