prayer for an answer - Guest - 10-08-2010 11:27 AM

I need prayer for God to show me why I'm in this marriage. My husband treated me horribly when we first got together. I have no idea why I married him. I've always had severe low self esteem due to addiction and trauma that God has been working on me the last couple of years. I was by myself for quite some time before I met my husband. He was more social and a lady's man, which was a turn off for me, and when I demanded he grow up before we married, he did by the grace of God. My problem is I'm angry at God because I had been through so much before I met him and I feel the blows to my self esteem from earlier on are now keeping me and my husband apart. I wake up everyday feeling like he's going to leave me for someone younger or more exciting. I've never felt like he was attracted to me just felt more settled because I was more responsible with my life than he has been. What he doesn't understand is I had to make that choice in order to live because I overdosed a couple of years ago and almost died so I've learned what is okay for me and what is not. He knows that about me but still makes me feel like I'm being too uptight. He says I'm overreacting and it's not true he just wants to be a changed man but how can I believe it when we first got together and he was flirting with these other girls and turning around and trying to start a life with me but "being responsible" doesn't make you feel desirable so then I start to feel like his mother or his friend and not like his new wife? I pray that God put a miracle on this because in my opinion, that innocence of excitement and intimacy when you first meet someone wasn't there and I had to watch other girls get it so he could "get it out of his system" and now when he's trying to make it right I don't want it from him because I hate feeling like I'm second in his object of desire. Please God restore this in our relationship!! I find myself getting excited when another man flirts with me or getting excited, because I haven't felt that feeling in a long time and my husband, the man God put in my life, can't produce those feelings for me because their now thwarted by anger and resentment and everything else that is not Christ. So I pray for understanding because despite this I still took a vow and I need God's miracle on this to either help me forgive so we can begin again.
Amen

Father, please show this guest in your loving way, that the primary issue here is not this husband from what she has written, but in her relationship with you. Her esteem suffers because she has not yet discovered who she is as a woman in Christ Jesus. She somehow feels that she settled for less than what she wanted in romance from this man during courtship...but in truth does she know just how lovable she is? Father, show her in your word how beautiful she is...that she is fearfully and wonderfully made...that she is a beloved of Christ. Father show her who she is that she may feel worthy of love...and become the woman and the wife that you meant her to be. Show her in Proverbs31 that lovable women are responsible...and are extolled by their husbands because of it. Help her to love herself...that she might be open to receiving this love from the man that you gave her...that you would be honored and glorified by this marriage becoming the union that you intend it to be. In Jesus blessed name...Amen!
